Navigating the Map

Navigation Tabs

The navigation tabs appearing in the top, left-hand corner above the map display represent the functionality available in Personalize My Commute. The tabs include:

  • Home: provides an overview of the map and its development/maintenance.
  • Personalize: allows user to enter starting/ending destination addresses that are displayed on the base map as a frame of reference.
  • Map Layers: allows users to toggle on/off data layers for transportation and the Cumberland district.

Inset Map

The inset map appearing in the upper right-hand corner of the map displays the specific portion of the Atlanta Metro Region Map currently displayed.

To zoom in/out of the map, select either the plus “+” or minus” icons or move the white button on the slide bar up or down.

To pan up/down or sideways, select the gray box with your mouse and drag the box in any direction. The gray box encompasses the specific portion of the Atlanta Metro Region map that will be displayed.

To hide the Inset Map, select the right-pointing arrow that appears in the left-hand border of the Inset Map. To unhide the Inset Map, select the left-pointing arrows that appears next to the slider bar.

Display Map

The main display map illustrates the region represented by the gray box in the Inset Map.

To zoom in/out of the map, use the functions provided with the Inset Map, described above.

To pan up/down or sideways, select anywhere on the map with your mouse and drag the map in any direction.

The Map

The large base is “powered” by Yahoo! Map Services and represents the most currently available map data for the Atlanta Metro Region. The map extends north into XX county, south into XX county, east into XX county, and west into XX county. Yahoo! updates the map several times annually.

The map display may be viewed in one of three modes:

  • Map: a graphical representation that includes counties, major/minor roads, parks, and key landmarks.
  • Hybrid: an aerial photography overlaid with street-level detail
  • Satellite: an aerial photograph (a bird’s eye vie

Personalize Tab

Enter your starting location into the box labeled “Enter your starting address” and select the “Go” link/button. Address must include a complete street address, the city and state abbreviation. A unique icon (green box with right-facing black arrow) representing the location will appear on the map. Note: you may have to adjust the zoom level to see the icon.

Enter your destination location into the box labeled “Enter your destination address” and select the “Go” link/button. Address must include a complete street address, the city and state abbreviation. A unique icon (red box with a black square) representing the location will appear on the map. Note: you may have to adjust the zoom level to see the icon.

Select the “Clear” link/button to reset the address data boxes.

Map Layers Tab

Layers may be toggled on/off by selecting the layer links. Layers may be viewed individually or in combination.

  • Note: to view the Cumberland District layers, use the Inset Map to zoom in to this region, just northwest of Atlanta.
